The editor of Scientific American thought this layout was boring, but oh well. ;o; My teacher and I liked it. An oldie but a goodie. I don't quite remember what the assignment was, maybe it was to illustrate an animal and it's environment/habitat, or some sort of 'how-to' or diagram.

The booze coon is a rarely seen sub-species of the typical raccoon. However, it's possible to find this elusive creature in the smarmiest of bars and in fresh mountain meadows near the mystical sake springs. These usually drunk animals love to dance while intoxicated, though watch out if you take a swig of his stash without asking: they don't carry katanas for looks! Back from my extended trip, give me about a week to catch up on emails, notes, and work in general. :P Or, rather, now's a good time to get my attention. Booze booze booze.

Little guy that sold at AC.I made an lj post asking for random animals to draw, and 'pika! smurfs!' was suggested. So.. have a smurfy pika. I don't remember what I painted this with, but judging from the palette I'm guessing I used watered down gouache. The inks were fun and scribbly inking pens.

My first and probably last foray into anything remotely conceptual/artsy fartsy in anthro art. Not too many people if any were interested in figuring out the symbology, and I even got a pretty rude comment about this piece at a con. :\ Anywho, I'd prefer to leave it up to people's interpretation, but for those that aren't sure where to start, I leave you with: "Sometimes our very gifts and talents are what brings us down." *Original is for sale* I love the fine lines of croquill, but it's pretty hard on the hands.

I'll have prints available for this one at AC. I rather liked how it came out (croquill inks mostly, watercolors on arches hotpress), though the original cycled through a couple shows before someone finally gave it a home at Califur. I can't emphasize how much a difference quality watercolor paper can make. Though strangely enough, with each different type of paper, it's almost like learning watercolor all over again. I hear good paints make a big difference too (I'm using mostly a cotman student grade travel set).
